Allison Behne

An innovative teacher, writer, and speaker, Allison Behne empowers educators to think outside the box and critically examine their instructional practices by asking, “What is best for my students?” She is the co-author of the expanded second edition of The CAFE Book, Expanded Second Edition: Engaging All Students in Daily Literacy Assessment and Instruction.

In the course of her professional career, Allison has taught students of all ages—preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 10th, and 12th grades, at the university level, and adults. She has been a classroom teacher and an instructional coach, and is currently a writer, presenter, online seminar instructor, and developer with The Daily CAFE company. In addition, she is an Assistant Professor of Education at Upper Iowa University, leading The Daily 5, CAFE, and Math Daily 3 graduate courses.

Allison is a major contributor to practice innovations in education, specifically within The Daily 5 framework and CAFE literacy system. She is the author of the Parent Pipelines, and many other online resources. Her most recent work includes The Daily 5 and CAFE Essential Elements, a collaboration with Gail Boushey.

She finds inspiration from the teachers and students she works with in classrooms year-round.

Allison, her husband Carl, and her two children, Samantha and Nathan, live in Iowa. She is a “soccer, baseball, football, basketball, track, dance, and choir mom,” and spends a lot of time on bleachers and in auditoriums. She will tell you that she wouldn’t have it any other way. Allison and her family enjoy traveling and attending concerts and sporting events together. Reading is another one of her passions, and you will often see at least five books (personal and professional) on her nightstand.
