Christina Nosek
Christina Nosek is a classroom teacher, author, speaker, and passionate literacy education advocate. For the past 20 years, Christina has experienced the classroom from many sides including special education inclusion aide, lower and upper grade elementary teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, and staff developer. While Christina was working toward her undergraduate degree at San Diego State University, she spent her mornings as a special education inclusion aide. It was during those three years that she spent in kindergarten, first, and second grades that Christina realized teaching was her life’s work. After a few years teaching in her own classroom, Christina decided she had to explore the world of literacy education even further. This led her to earn her masters degree in literacy instruction and reading specilaist credential at San Jose State University. In addition to supporting elementary students in becoming lifelong readers, Christina finds true joy in helping other classroom teachers learn and grow as literacy education professionals. Recently, she has presented at regional, state, and national conferences on conferring with readers and bringing joy back to the literacy classroom. She especially loves helping her fellow classroom teachers make reading and writing instruction both practical and engaging. Christina is just thrilled to share her first book, To Know and Nurture a Reader: Conferring with Confidence and Joy, cowritten with Kari Yates, with teachers, literacy coaches, and principals to help them develop and maintain an effective conferring practice. Christina lives in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley where she loves to cycle up mountains, run on the beach, and experiment in the kitchen when she’s not writing, speaking, or working in her fifth-grade classroom. |
